Outside Reading #16

The book I started reading was called In My Skin by Kate Holden. It's a memoir on her life though collage and after. Kate gets in to a lot of bad things including drugs and prostitution. I know it's a memoir so the story  is suppose to be true but I find it hard that someone could do all this stuff. Kate the author gets  hooked on heroin and to feed that habbit she losses many friends  along the way. But I think it's weird that her family stays with her supports her and lets her live with them even when she is still using. I really like the book so far.

Outside Reading #12

 I read the poem called Bleezer's Ice Cream by Jack Prelutsky. I mostly like this poem because it makes me really want ice cream. Mr. Prelutsky really shows how creative you can be with coming up with names of flavors of ice cream. My favorite is WATERMELON WAFFLE WHEAT, the way something are in caps and other things aren't, really get his point over.

Outside Reading #11

I reread one on my favorite kid book, called The Giving Tree by  Shel Silverstein. I remember that I was always  being read this book when I was in preschool, I always had this very real picture of the tree with the heart caved in it. The book is about a the relationship between the tree and a boy and how the tree would do anything for the boy. The tree even allows the boy to cut the tree down so all that is left is a stump. I think it's a very sweet book, and really shows the meaning of giving. 

Outside Reading #10

This weekend I read an article in the Rolling Stone about Mitch Mitchell by David Fricke. Now when you think of the Jimi Hendrix Experience you think of Jimi Hendrix, but the lesser know people involved where just as important. Mitchell work as Hendrix's drummer for four years right up till the death of the rock star. Mitchell gave Hendrix the space he need to work his guitar magic but then stepped up to the plate when he need it. Mitchell let lose on stage, he was like a lead drummer with the kind of style he had. 

Outside Reading #9

I started read a book called The Princess and the Hound by Mette Ivie Harrison. A lot of the times I pick books because of their cover that's what I did in this case. The book is a fairy-tale like about a young prince and princess who have to marry but don;t want to. It reminds me of Romeo and Juliet but like the opposite. I like that at the beginning it tells the whole back story of how life came to be.  I don't really know how to predict what is going to happen, I want to say they will end up falling in love but it would be cool if for once the book wasn't to predicable.

Outside Reading #7

I read an article in the Rolling Stone called The Schooling of Nick Jonas by Jenny Eliscu. Now I'm not a Jonas Brothers fan by any standard but this was a very interesting article. They took Nick Jonas and Elvis Costello to talk about music. What I think was most interesting was the way they seemed so chill with each other like they were on the same wave length. I also really like the picture of Nick and Costello side be side and how much they dress a like.

Final Part-

When looking for the artifacts I wanted to get a wide range for each one of my heroes. I classified them by the types like written, videos clips, story's about them. This way I could get down and find the connections of them to me. The kind of hero I pick were my heroes, people who I feel make not only the world a better place but make my life a better place.

This website shows that Oprah is a very successful women. Not only has she made a multi-million dollar company but she also gives a lot of her money a way.

In this clip shows Oprah in The Color Purple, which is not only I great movie but also great book. This shows that Oprah has veracity to not only host a talk show but star in a Academy Awards nominated film.

Allen Ginsberg

Allen Ginsberg was dead before the Internet hit high speed but yet has his own website. He worked with Bob Dylan and wrote about his feelings on what was going on in the world.

This poem is my all time favorite of his, the way he relates life with laundry makes it seems so simple but yet it's not. It shows life with out all the glam and gets down to what the real problems are.

In conclusion I found that I pick my heroes by who I wish I will be when I grow up. Looking at all these different parts of one persons life really shows me that you can really do what ever you want. Both Oprah and Ginsberg are amazing people who found strength and really excelled in what they loved. When I grow up if ever, I want to put as much passion in to want I do as Ginsberg did to his writing or as Oprah does helping people.

The Book I just stared reading Our band Could Be Your Life by Michael Azerrad, which is a book about the American indie underground music scene. This book is about 13 different bands that people feel have very big influance them. Most of the bands I havn't heard of but my parents have. I really like the way it's writen because it really flows and is kinda a writen in more slangish.

Reading The Unspeckable Odyssey of the Motionless Boy by Joshua Foer what really surpised me it that Kennedy had only stated putting the brain implants during the 80's. This shows how much really we have advanced in less then 30 years. What also amazes me is that the parts of the implants have been around since the 50's, it makes me think what else we could use to help people that we don't know of.

Outside Reading #3

I read the poem Child Moon by Carl Sandburg, when I first read it the poem seems short and cute. But under that I think it has a meaning of how something so small like watching the moon can brighten and expand a child's imagination. I remember looking at the moon and thinking who was looking up at the same as me, would I ever meet them? I think it's one of the first things that kids do, look up at the moon and all these questions appear in there mind. Like What's up there? Could someday I get there? Without kids asking those questions would we be as far along in this world?

Outside Reading #1

When I read Homework by Allen Ginsburg it makes me think about how Ginsburg expresses all his feelings in a poem. I can barely show my own feelings and yet he can write a poem about how he feels toward the whole world. My favorite line in the poem is  "I'd throw in my United States, and pour on the Ivory Soap, scrub up Africa, put all the birds and elephants back in the jungle," I love how he takes a simple chores like laundry and turns it in to how he would fix the world. The way Ginsburg relates things in his real life to his writing is amazing.
